Timing
I prefer to book only two photographic shoots of approx 2hrs each per day, one early morning and the other later afternoon; this provides for the optimum choice of lighting conditions. Other times of the day could be utilized if the property has decently illuminated shaded areas, if the day is overcast or if it is a specific type of shot you are after. Please feel free to discuss ideas with me.
Location
I shoot at a location of your choice or preference. Bear in mind, though, that the setting, can make or break the photographic results. For each shoot I like to work in a variety of settings i.e. in a stable, over stable doors, entrances to stables etc then venturing out in natural surroundings. Open grassy fields and backgrounds with less clutter make for great photos. Settings that are rather busy i.e. paddocks or boundary fences, and buildings, etc distract the eye and result in less striking images. These are not rules, but something to bear in mind when deciding on a shoot location. Hence if there are no open fields or spaces at your stables, it would be good to think about using / getting permission for the use of a nearby field, paddock, etc. Just a thought … use it … don’t use it.
